RMH:
Hello Niko! Congratulations on your upcoming release, "One Day"! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this track and how it reflects your style as a DJ and Producer in Barcelona?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
Hii guys, thanks a lot for this opportunity :) This track is very important for me because it represents a turning point for what concerns my new style and my “vision” about electronic music. I know that now the “Hard techno movement” is growing up so fast in the clubbing world. So by my side I try to find the best way to mix all my influences (House,Techno,Minimal and Trance) to create a new genre that can fully fit into the period that we are living in now as regards electronic music. I am really satisfied with the result :)
RMH:
Behind every artist is a unique story. Can you share a pivotal moment or experience from your life that ignited your passion for electronic music and ultimately led you to become a DJ and Producer?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
I can say that from when I was a child, I always Iexpressed my love for the music in general , my mother keeps some photos of when I was about 2 years old with headphones on my head and a record player next to me, she played music to put me to sleep . In my adolescent age for a few years I played drums in a rock band in my city. Let's just say that total love for electronic music blossomed when I attended my first techno night. The name of the party was called "Matrix" to perform was a famous Italian DJ named Andrea Mattioli and at the microphone the great Franchino who made himself famous for telling real fairy tales over the tracks of the DJs riding the waves of music. At that moment there was what they unleashed in the hearts of 5000 people, to which I thought damn I want to do it too !
RMH:
Barcelona has a vibrant electronic music scene. How has the city influenced your music production journey, and are there any local elements or experiences that have made their way into "One Day"?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
I chose to move here in Barcelona after 2014 , the energy and the vibes that are perceived here are incredible . I noticed that people here have no prejudice against anyone, city with an open mind light years ahead of my Italy. Surly the fact of living in a Metropolis with the environment allows you not to be afraid to take risks and continue to try and experiment in all fields, obviously including the music.
RMH:
The title "One Day" suggests a sense of anticipation or looking towards the future. Can you share some of the emotions or themes you aimed to convey through this track, and how do you hope listeners will connect with it?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
One day for me (and I hope not only) represents a lifestyle that above all I have learned to cultivate by living here trying to make my dream come true. Let me explain. There will be many difficult moments in life and above all people envious of you will continue to tell you everything to try to discourage you and invite you to give up everything. The important thing for me is to always believe in your dreams, in your passions, constantly doing so it doesn't matter sooner or later but ONE DAY will come your moment that will change everything.
RMH:
Music production is often a blend of technical skills and creative intuition. Could you walk us through your creative process when working on a new track? How do you balance experimentation with maintaining a cohesive sound?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
When I sit down in the studio to produce I'm never quite clear what the final result that will come out of my Ableton will be. I let a lot flow to what comes up at the moment, also making me influenced by the period of life I'm going through at that particular moment and trying to pass it on to my audience. Mostly I use a midi controller with external plugins, I really like the sound I can get from "Serum". Many let themselves be influenced or think that to make good tracks you need a studio with equipment worth thousands of euros, for me what matters is having ideas, emotions and inspiration. Once that the ways to transmit them to the public are infinite and I say that so I found my way.
RMH:
The electronic music industry is constantly evolving, with new trends and technologies shaping the landscape. How do you stay innovative and relevant as an artist, and what do you see as the key ingredients for a successful, enduring career in today's music scene?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
For me the fundamental ingredient to “stand out” and to emerge in this industry is to meet your own "musical identity" that differentiates you from all the other artists. Knowing how to mix your characteristics with today's trends, in my example I have always been in favor of melodies, synths and voices to convey emotions. These are elements that with changing fashions I will never abandon, they are part of me. In my view, I found a compromised bun without "distorting myself too much". You will soon see it in my next releases ;)
RMH:
Being an artist often means facing challenges and overcoming obstacles. Can you recall a particularly challenging period in your career, and how did you manage to navigate through it?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
Certainly one above all.The fact of not finding any "musically speaking" space in my hometown Bergamo could have brought me down a lot on a moral level. Once our "Deep revolution" party closed I was quite cornered and morale down. It was at that time that I decided to drop everything and leave, which means starting everything from 0 again. I went like 4 months without being able to put a track on a cdj. Beginnings and changes are the hardest moments, but as I said before you never mustn't give up, the advice I give is above all to move in circuits similar to your passions and meet as many people as possible. In 2018 I attended a masterclass in a hotel organized by Fiesta & Bullshit. It was there that I met Simone most relevant person that I met in this experience here in Barcelona. Thanks for everything, Simo. Since that time we started collaborating and now we have become best friends, roommates and we organize together a party called “SOCIEDAD GROOVE” which is having a great relevance in the Barcelona underground scene.
RMH:
Finally, If your music was a flavor of ice cream, what would it be and why?
NIKO SANCHEZ:
It could be the ice cream you get in a famous Italian ice cream parlor called mr whippy: Nocciorlacchio – based on hazelnut cream, cocoa crumble, pistachio praline and caramelized almonds. Like my music it’s a combination of tastes and elements that are taken individually, may not say anything, but combined together they create a surprising and tasty effect :)
