We talked to OFFAIAH about his recent track 'No Competition' and other projects! Find out more below!
RMH:
Welcome OFFAIAH! We’re thrilled to have you here.Your track "No Competition" has been getting a lot of attention. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this song and your creative process for it?
OFFAIAH:
The track was initally sent to me a demo by up-and-coming DJ/Procuder Conor Grant and I was hooked on the track from the very first listen – the use of the vocal was the first thing that captured my imagination and the production level of the first demo was executed to a very high level – and I remember thinking to myself – I have to be involved in this record! ‘Doctor Love’ has always been one of my favorite records, and being such a popular record has been sampled many times by various artists – the key goal here was to do it in a way that hasn’t been done before in order to open up the track to a whole new generation of listeners – we tried to keep it as unpredictable as possible and think it works really well. As far as production goes it was relatively straight forward – Conor had started the track in Logic, using some of Logic’s native synths. - I then had to pull the elements of that into Ableton which is the DAW I feel most comfortable using. Most of the production time was spend re-recording and arranging the vocals and getting them to have the same feel, vibe and energy as the original.
RMH:
Since your breakout hit "Trouble" in 2016, how has your sound evolved, and what elements have remained constant in your music

OFFAIAH:
Since “Trouble” my sound has seen quite a few twists and turns shifting between a more melodic house sound all the way to banging tech house and a few things in between. When making music I’m all about the groove, anything that gets people to feel like they need to get on the dancefloor and do their thing. I’m always looking for sounds that really resonate well and try to weave them in to the production maintaining groove and movement.

RMH:
You've been influenced by legends like Frankie Knuckles and Carl Cox. How have these influences shaped your approach to producing house and techno music?
OFFAIAH:
It's hard to say excatly how these great artists have influenced me but over the decades of listening to these guys I’ve been like a sponge soaking up all the small details that make their music work and it all comes out in one way or another in my productions, whether it be a particular swing style I use on the percussion or how the musical elements can work their way in to the beats of a track.

RMH:
Can you share any memorable moments or experiences from your live shows that have particularly stood out to you?
OFFAIAH:
I remember one of the first festivals I played at in NYC, I believe it was Electric Zoo – I had turned up for my hour set not expecting very much, maybe a few hundred people or so but as I walked out on stage and looked out I saw before me a sea of people which must have been at least 40,000 strong. That moment filled me with such inspiration and passion for Djing which I’ll have for the rest of my life.

RMH:
What has been the most challenging aspect of your career in the electronic music industry, and how have you overcome it?

OFFAIAH:
As a touring DJ and father of 3 small children one of the hardest things to do is manage my time and I confess my attention has been geared a lot towards family responsibilities over the last few years rather than music production and touring but one of the things I’ve done is set myself realistic targets to hit music-wise, whether that be remixes to do or original songs to release and I look forward to sharing that journey with my listeners.
RMH:
If your music could be the soundtrack to any movie or TV show, which one would it be and why?

OFFAIAH:
As a classically trained musician I’d be in dreamland if I could score a Christopher Nolan movie! Outside of that, it’ll be great fun to have something eneregtic in an action movie – think John Wick, Mission Impossible, Fast & The Furious vibes.
RMH:
What can fans expect from your upcoming releases and gigs? Are there any exciting projects or collaborations on the horizon?

OFFAIAH:
I’m about to line up a whole bunch of releases on my record label ALL FIRE starting September of 2024 which will have a load of music from myself and other great DJ’s. I’m working on getting a collab with MK in the books for this year but ahead of that I have a collab in progress with Crusy and also another one with Kyle Kinch which are both sounding hot so keep an ear out for those! Gig-wise I’ll be at Ushiaia Ibiza July 5th, Gorilla Manchester July 6th, Bar Standard Denver July 11th and Silo Brooklyn NY July 12th just to name a few for July 2024.
