RMH:
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the creation of Maritime Yacht Club and how it differs from your previous projects as individual artists?
Josh Butler & José Rosa:
We have such a board range of inspirations from Deep House artist like Kerri Chandler to more modern pop/dance acts like Rufus and Camel Phat.
RMH:
'I'll Be There' is the fourth single from your forthcoming album. How does this track contribute to the overall sound and concept of the album?
Josh Butler & José Rosa:
'I'll Be There' is an emotionally charged track that delves into the theme of support and resilience during challenging times. Our aim for the whole album was to create a meaningful connection with listeners by infusing the music with a danceable quality. It's a personal and relatable experience that invites you to both feel and move to the rhythm.
RMH:
We've heard that Maritime Yacht Club incorporates various genres like deep house, breaks, jazz, and electro. How did you manage to blend these different styles together while maintaining a cohesive sound?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
Mixing different genres was super exciting for us. We wanted to make sure it all flowed together smoothly, so we looked for common elements that worked across the different styles. We paid attention to the rhythms, harmonies, and overall vibes of each genre to create a seamless fusion. We handpicked and layered elements from deep house, breaks, jazz, and electro to create a unique sound that reflects our diverse influences.
RMH:
Could you share some insights into the collaborative process between the two of you? How do your individual strengths complement each other in the studio?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
We have worked together for many years so to be honest didn’t apply any pressure to making music for this project, we’ve just been having a good time making music and it seemed to flow, just making what we are feeling at that time and they all just seem to come pretty naturally.
RMH:
'Got A Feeling' has been a significant milestone in your careers and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. How has the success of that track influenced your artistic journey and the creation of Maritime Yacht Club?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
'Got A Feeling' was a pivotal moment in our artistic journey. Its success gave us the confidence to explore new directions and push our boundaries further. It showed us the power of music to connect with people on a profound level and inspired us to dig deeper into our creative well. Got a feeling also heavily influenced the sound of Maritime Yacht Club.
RMH:
We know that Maritime Yacht Club was born during the lockdown in 2020. How did this project help you both navigate the challenges of that time and find creative inspiration?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
Maritime Yacht Club became a way to channel our emotions at the time. The absence of live performances gave us the opportunity to deep dive into the studio, experimenting with sounds and textures without the time constraints of touring. It was a cathartic experience that helped us find inspiration amidst the chaos and allowed us to explore a new area of music production and song writing.
RMH:
With a 12-track debut LP on the horizon, what can listeners expect from the album in terms of themes, emotions, and sonic exploration?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
The main themes of the album are togetherness, overcoming personal challenges. The production styles vary across a few different genres, some reflect our previous production styles whereas others we’ve been able to explore new directions.
RMH:
As artists with a strong connection to the underground scene, how do you balance creating music that resonates with a broader commercial audience while staying true to your roots?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
It's a delicate dance between underground and commercial but as the dance music scene has grown over the last 10 years those lines have become more blury and the two sides merging closer than ever. So we try not to pay too much attention to that and just create songs as we feel they need to sound.
RMH:
Lastly, to add a fun twist, if you could throw a yacht party with any three electronic music artists, living or dead, who would you invite and why?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
Eric Prydz because we’d invite him and hope we would do a set for us too, his live show on the boat, that would be insane!

Daft Punk would most definitely getting an invite, they’re presence along would be this party legendary!

Disclosure would be up there an invite to, we love what those guys do and they seem like super genuine people that we’d get along with!!
RMH:
Bonus question: If Maritime Yacht Club was a fictional place, what would be its unique characteristics and attractions?
JOSH BUTLER & JOSÉ ROSA:
If Maritime Yacht Club was a place, it would be a paradise for music lovers and ocean enthusiasts. The club would be nestled on a secluded island with pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. It would have a floating dancefloor, hot tubs and sunset all day long haha!
