RMH:
Hello. Thank you very much for joining us for a chat! Can you share with us the journey that led you from Finland to Seattle, and how has this cultural shift influenced your music?
LUMI:
I was living in Seattle before I moved to Finland so it was natural for me to come back after living there for a bit to do my degree. I had a foundation built here in Seattle as I had been raving and going to events for many years in the area even before the move to Finland. The culture is definitely different, but there are some similarities, I would say Seattle has a larger rave scene, but the scene in Finland is more underground, which were the bulk of the parties I attended while living there.
RMH:
Congratulations on joining the HE.SHE.THEY family! What attracted you to this collective, and how do you feel your music aligns with their ethos of inclusivity and expressionism?

LUMI:
Thank you this is very exciting for me and the HE SHE THEY family has been so welcoming, I love everything that they stand for and the people behind the label. I feel my music works really well with their ethos, especially, Who Am I, the ep I’m releasing with them, because it really dives into the concept of finding yourself, that process can be difficult at times but once you do you will find the people that accept you the way you are and I think that’s what the HE SHE THEY culture is all about.
RMH:
Your upcoming release, "Who Am I," is described as having a minimal touch with pausing basslines and vocal harmonies. What was the inspiration behind this EP, and how does it reflect your musical evolution?
LUMI:
The inspiration behind Who Am I really comes from a place of self exploration and making an imprint of my own with my music and sound. I’m still figuring out who I am as an artist and this is a time for growth, exploration, and celebration of these new learnings and landmarks.

RMH:
How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks? Do you have any specific rituals or methods that you follow?
LUMI:
I usually look for 3-4 tracks that are inspiring me right now and then go into the studio with those in the back of my head kind of thinking about the direction I want to take things while still keeping my own style and sound. Then I really start putting things together piece by piece, somewhere along that journey a vocal usually comes to me and I’ll immediately rush to pull out the mic and start recording, whether it’s a melody or both lyrics and melodies together, nothing is ever linear so every time is different. The important thing is letting things flow naturally and not forcing anything, hold that space for yourself to play around and don’t put too much pressure on yourself! Oh and I love a little nicotine gum in the studio, it gets me really focused!

RMH:
Can you tell us more about your experience collaborating with labels like Octopus and Kneaded Pains? How have these collaborations influenced your artistic growth?

LUMI:
Both labels have been really great to work with and allowed me to begin my journey as an artist. I’ve also loved a lot of the music on both of these labels for quite some time now, so it’s been really incredible to get to release with labels alongside artists I really look up to!
RMH:
As a DJ, what are some essential items or rituals you always carry with you on tour to ensure smooth performances and personal well-being?

LUMI:
I’m a big vitamin girl, I need to have my specific stack when it comes for day-time and sleep. I also take sleep pretty seriously, so making sure I have ear plugs etc. is important and I actually sleep with them at night, they are different from the ones I wear on stage btw! I also always make a point to get a work out in of some sort even if it’s a short one, to keep my immune system healthy and strong, and it’s always good for mental health!
RMH:
If you could swap lives with any fictional character for a day, who would it be and what would you do?

LUMI:
I would be a ninja, it would be cool to have that skillset and go run around bouncing on the walls etc.
