Klaudia Gawlas: when it comes to music, I love digging deep and I listen to a lot during the day. I like to take both my digging and listening in different directions.
We are happy to welcome our next guest, Klaudia Gawlas!

Renowned Polish DJ, Producer and Label Boss Klaudia Gawlas is back with another release on her newly launched Illusion Recordings imprint. Following the initial success of ‘YDK’ and ‘Resilience’, Gawlas returns with another huge club weapon as she unveils ‘Crazy’.

We sat with the electronic music gem to find out more...
RMH:
Hey Klaudia, you have been doing music for a long time. How do you feel the way you approach being an artist is different now to how it was when you started? What things have got better, or worse for you?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
Hello. That’s a big question. I am listening to techno music now for more then 25 years and as for an artist I think Internet changed everything.
There were times where there was no Social Media or even Homepages. You could download sets from wired pages from DJ recordings all over Europe, but it was still illegal to do that and for the dj to share it. The way to share music changed so much and made it much easier for the music itself, but I think as an artist the job changed completely.
It’s easier to make music, technique changed a lot and that’s the good thing about. The bad thing is to find the right tracks. There is so much out there, it’s unbelievable
Back in the days you went to a record store, you’ve had this little selection of your vinyl dealer already sorted and you could discover. Now you have 1000 Tracks to discover.
Also Social Media is ruling a lot. But it would take pages to talk about that.
RMH:
You started your own label. Many artists are doing this now. What was the driving force behind this decision?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
I think it was just time to do my own label. I have many good unreleased Tracks they need to be shared and also I want to support some other artists with their releases. And last but not least I want to have my own label nights. I think if you have an Vision you have to follow.
Also it’s good to have full control on everything. I love that.
RMH:
Only music from yourself has been on Illusion recordings so far, with your 3rd single release out on the 10th November. Can you tell us the musical direction of the label, and will you plan to take demos from others for the imprint?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
Yes sure. I will open the label in 2024 for other artists. Thats the plan. First I wanted to drop my tracks and start, but now it’s time to open step by step and build it up. I have some nice artists already on my hand so I can’t wait to share it later. Also we are working on some remixes for the label.
RMH:
As we approach the end of the year, do you have some highlights from 2023? What are your career goals for 2024?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
I was really happy to be back at Tomorrowland this year, at such a huge stage. I think this one will be on my mind for a long time.
Also Nature One Festival is always a highlight for me. But I think I also have to mention Colombia. Been there two times this year and the crowd there is one of the best.
Of course I have many plans for 2024. But I am not able to talk about it.
But I am on fire!
RMH:
In your recent podcast for The Brvtalist, you showcased a diverse range of sounds. How do you approach curating a mix, and are there any specific tracks or artists that you're particularly excited about at the moment?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
When it comes to music, I love digging deep and I listen to a lot during the day. I like to take both my digging and listening in different directions. At the end, it’s all about what I feel I want to play on stage. Of course, after all of these years I have found my own flow and now know what I need for my sets. I think the challenge is to find the tracks that you have on your USB stick! I do have a lot of folders sorted and it makes it easier, but still when you have so many tracks, it can be difficult. Discovering new artists is important, it would not be fair to name just a few of them as there are so many I love, and am excited to play and see where their career takes them.
RMH:
As someone deeply involved in the techno scene, you've witnessed the fusion of various sub-genres over the years. Are there any emerging trends or sub-genres within techno that you find particularly intriguing or innovative? How do you see these influences shaping the direction of your music in the future?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
There are so many genres, and sub genres these days it’s crazy, and can seem like a bit of a jungle to define what genre your track lands in. I am currently loving all of the strong sounds, the scratchy synths to the harder productions. An unknown sound or element in a track that you’ve not yet heard, that's special. I have a few tracks that I am using on rotation at the moment with these ‘surprises’ in them. Sometimes the crowd are also not expecting it, so it brings another dimension to your set. I think that a mix between hard, groovy, some vocals and a melody is what techno is, for me anyway.
RMH:
If "Crazy" had a fragrance, what do you think it would smell like, and what would you name the perfume?
KLAUDIA GAWLAS:
Wow, what a great question! Ha ha. It would not be sweet at all. Maybe something very fresh and a touch of sea wind. A slight smell of wood…..a bit of lemon! It depends on how it’s all mixed, just like a track. Of course, it would be called ‘Crazy’ by Klaudia Gawlas.
