Brazilian Techno Talent HNGT Drops Debut Three-tracker on Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA

Hailing from Brusque, Brazil, Ricardo Hingst (known artistically as HNGT) is quickly becoming one of the country’s most exciting prospects. Raising his profile as a DJ and producer with performances at D EDGE, Elfortin, Terraza and Surreal, and releases on the likes of Createch and now Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint, HNGT is well on his way to being one of Brazil’s leading electronic names.

HNGT’s debut on VOLTA is an impressive three-tracker showcasing a depth in musicality with a firm grasp on modern techno flavours.

We invited HNGT and Victor Ruiz for a chat to find out more about the release and VOLTA. Enjoy!

RMH:
Can you tell us about your label VOLTA and what inspired you to start it?
Victor ruiz

VOLTA was born organically. During the pandemic I started a Masterclass and a mentorship for producers. I realised that there was so much great music coming from them and their biggest struggle was to find a home to their art. The light bulb went on! It was time for me to start my own label. VOLTA is a platform for people to connect and to release their music. Bringing new names together is already starting to open a creative space for producer to interact and even work together.
RMH:
VOLTA has been gaining a lot of attention in the techno scene. Can you talk about your vision for the label and what you hope to achieve with it?
Victor ruiz
VOLTA is about creating a community that helps itself and others. 10% of the profit from the label will be donated for charities and causes chosen by the artists. The idea is beyond helping those in aid, but also to spread consciousness and awareness that we must help. Besides that, we’ll start making events that will be in a different format than the usual, but I can’t disclose that yet :)
RMH:
How do you decide which artists to sign to VOLTA and what do you look for in a potential artist?
Victor ruiz
The most important thing is authenticity. That’s what we’re looking after. I don’t want the exact sound of label A, B or C. I want to develop our own sound that has quality and is fresh. I also want the artists that come to the label to be creative not just with music but with ideas. Open for inputs and brainstorming. We are here to push boundaries!
RMH:
What's next for Victor Ruiz and VOLTA?
Victor ruiz
The label has the full year mostly programmed with releases and so much great music is coming. Can’t wait to share with you all.
As for myself, many releases are coming. A remix for Tao Andra in June, then a collab EP with Alex Stein in August - both on VOLTA. Then September a collab EP with Modea on Drumcode. October a remix that I can’t yet say and a collab EP with Wehbba for November/December, also on VOLTA. It’s gonna be a great year!
RMH:
Congratulations on your new 3 track release titled 'Rebel’! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this release?
HNGT
Thanks a lot! I think the biggest inspiration for this EP was believing that it's possible to accomplish everything you really believe in. Be rebellious in a way to face reality, acquire knowledge and create the future world you want to live in. It's the concept of the EP.
RMH:
How does 'Rebel' differ from your previous releases, both in terms of sound and the creative process?
HNGT
I think the biggest difference is that I'm gradually reaching a greater musical maturity, I'm passionate about deep melodies and groove, and little by little I'm improving my way of expressing myself through my music. I'm sure of that when I see the reactions of tracks around the world where Victor has played them.
RMH:
We know you're a techno producer, but do you have any guilty pleasure tracks that you secretly love to dance to?
HNGT
Definitely! I’m a big fan of Indie Rock, trippy hop, and also all the other electronic music styles. My favourite alternative tracks was ''Instant Crush'' from Daft Punk and Julian Casablancas, and ''Roads'' from Portishead, which i have made an cool techno edit! :)
RMH:
What can we expect from HNGT in the future? Do you have any upcoming releases or collaborations that you're excited about?
HNGT
For sure! The next few months will be full of new releases and collabs, two very special ones with my brother Innervoix, who is one of the people I most identify with musically, in addition to singles, remixes and many other things! :)
