RMH:
Welcome to Rave Me Hard, DJ YUKI! We’re thrilled to have you here.
Your new track "Pretty Lady (So Divine)" recently dropped and is already creating a buzz. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this track and what it means to you personally?
DJ YUKI:
Thank you so much! I'm excited to be here. I am so happy "Pretty Lady (So Divine)" is out and that it’s been so well received, I am really grateful. It’s a track that’s very close to my heart and really represents a new stage for me as an artist and just coming into my own. I wanted to create something that captures the essence of divine femininity, celebrating women’s beauty, strength, and the powerful energy they bring into the world. Personally, it’s a tribute to women worldwide and a reminder to all women to embrace their power and never dim their light.
RMH:
Your Nigerian heritage plays a significant role in your music.
How do you blend the rich elements of African culture with contemporary electronic sounds, and what message do you hope to express through this fusion?
DJ YUKI:
My Nigerian heritage is a huge part of who I am. Elements of African music such as the melodies, the drums and the storytelling are so amazingly rich. When I blend these with contemporary electronic sounds, it’s like creating a bridge between the past and the future, a bridge between Lagos to London with a nice stopover in Ibiza. Through this fusion, my message is one of unity, resilience, and the importance of staying true to ourselves and connected to our roots while embracing innovation.
RMH:
"Pretty Lady (So Divine)" is being celebrated as an empowering anthem for women. How important is it for you to create music that not only entertains but also uplifts and empowers, especially for women in today’s world?
DJ YUKI:
It’s incredibly important to me. As an artist, I feel a responsibility to use my platform for something positive. Women face so many challenges in today’s world, and if my music can be a source of confidence, or even just a moment of joy, then I’ve done my job. Empowerment is at the core of what I do, whether it’s through the lyrics or the overall vibe of a track, I want women to feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
RMH:
Your track has been released under the prestigious Armada Music label.
What has your experience been like working with Armada, and how do you feel they’ve supported your artistic vision?
DJ YUKI:
Working with Armada has been an amazing experience. They’re a label that really understands the artist’s vision and gives you the space to be true to yourself while also providing the support needed to take your music to the next level. They’ve been incredibly supportive of my creative direction, especially with "Pretty Lady (So Divine)." Armada believes in pushing boundaries and new sounds, and that’s something that really resonates with me.
RMH:
When it comes to producing new tracks, what inspires you the most? Do you have a particular creative process, or do you prefer to go with the flow?
DJ YUKI:
Inspiration can come from anywhere—a conversation, a memory, a sound, or even just a feeling. Sometimes, I’ll start with a beat, other times with a melody or a lyric idea. I find that the best tracks come when I’m relaxed and just letting the ideas come naturally and not forcing anything. For some reason, I get a lot of my ideas when I am in the shower so I always keep my phone nearby, ready to record voice notes of lyric and melody ideas. I really don’t know why that is. Perhaps it’s something to do with the sound of running water as I love writing by the sea whenever I am away.
RMH:
What upcoming projects or collaborations are you most excited about? Any sneak peeks you can share with us?
DJ YUKI:
I’m really excited about some upcoming collaborations that bring together different genres and cultures. There’s one project in particular that I can’t say too much about yet but it’s blending Afrobeat with electronic dance music in a way that hasn’t really been done before, so stay tuned for that! It’s going to be something special.
RMH:
Imagine you're throwing a party on the moon.
What three things would you absolutely need to make it the best lunar rave ever?
DJ YUKI:
The moon, how exotic! First off, I’d need an insane sound system! Second, some gravity-defying visuals. And third, I’d need a dance floor that lights up with every slow mo two-step. Oh, and of course, a crowd of amazing ravers!
