RMH:
Your latest release, Sometimes We Have to Lose Our Mind to Find Ourselves, is going to be out soon on Rave Me Hard. What was the inspiration behind this track, and what emotions or message do you want listeners to take away from it?
ATUL PATEL:
The inspiration behind this track comes from a personal journey of self-discovery. I believe that sometimes, in order to truly find ourselves, we need to break free from our own limitations, our fears, and even our rational mind. The track embodies that feeling-losing control, surrendering to the moment, and in that chaos, discovering something deeper within. Sonically, it's intense, hypnotic, and raw, mirroring the highs and lows of that journey. I want listeners to not just hear the track, but to feel it-to let go, lose themselves in the sound, and maybe, in the process, find a part of themselves.
RMH:
Rave Me Hard has been releasing some forward-thinking underground sounds. How did this collaboration come about, and what drew you to release on this label?
ATUL PATEL:
I've been following Rave Me Hard for a while, and I've always appreciated their raw and high-energy approach to techno. When I had this track ready, I felt it aligned perfectly with their vision. I sent it over, and it was great to see that they connected with it. It's exciting to be part of a label that truly supports underground sounds and brings fresh energy to the scene.
RMH:
How did your journey in electronic music begin? Were there any defining moments that led you to pursue this path?
ATUL PATEL:
My journey started with a deep fascination for sound design and electronic textures. I was always drawn to darker, atmospheric sounds, and over time, I found my voice in techno. A defining moment was when I signed my first track-it gave me the confidence to take music more seriously and push my creative boundaries. As I continued producing, it felt like unlocking a new world where I could express myself without any boundaries. The more I refined my craft and discovered new sonic possibilities, the more I realized that this wasn't just a passion-it was something I wanted to dedicate myself to fully.
RMH:
Who have been your biggest musical influences, both within and outside of electronic music?
ATUL PATEL:
Within electronic music, I've been deeply influenced by artists who push the boundaries of sound design and take a fearless approach to their craft. Producers like Paula Temple, SNTS, Enrico Sangiuliano, and Wehbba have been major inspirations, among many others. Outside the realm of electronic music, I draw inspiration from cinematic scores and ambient textures, as they bring a depth of storytelling that I strive to incorporate into my own work.
RMH:
Do you feel Indian artists are getting enough global recognition in the techno scene? What challenges do you think artists from India face when trying to break into the international circuit?
ATUL PATEL:
The Indian techno scene is growing rapidly, and more artists are getting recognized, but there's still a long way to go. One of the biggest challenges is exposure-breaking into the international circuit requires strong connections, access to global platforms, and consistent releases. Additionally, infrastructure and industry gatekeeping can make it harder for emerging artists to find opportunities on a global scale. However, with the rise of digital communities, independent labels, and more international collaborations, things are definitely moving in the right direction.
RMH:
If you could have a back-to-back DJ set with any fictional character, who would it be and why?
ATUL PATEL:
I'd have to go with The Joker. His chaotic energy, unpredictability, and complete disregard for the rules align perfectly with the kind of raw, high-energy sets I love to play. It would be pure madness on the decks-no limits, just controlled chaos.
RMH:
Looking ahead, do you have any upcoming projects or collaborations that you can share with us? What can we expect from you in the near future?
ATUL PATEL:
Yes, I have a few exciting things lined up! I'm currently finalizing an EP that explores even darker and more intense sounds, and there's also a remix project in the works. I'm also collaborating with some incredible artists and exploring new ways to incorporate foley elements and storytelling into my music. There's a lot more on the horizon, and I can't wait to share it!
