RMH:
Hello Aida, and welcome! Your journey from being an acrobat and fire performer with Cirque du Soleil to becoming a producer and DJ is so unique and fascinating. How did that transition happen for you, and what drove you to pursue music?
Aida Arko:
Thank you! Collecting my fave records and DJing for the crew after shows ignited my love for music. Moving from physical expression to emotional storytelling through sound felt like a natural progression.
RMH:
Your Persian heritage is a big influence in your work. Could you share how it shapes your sound and creativity, especially within Austria's electronic music scene?
Aida Arko:
Persian music’s emotional depth and its big literature history had a huge impact on me as a child. I blend these elements with Western electronic music culture, letting myself be inspired by everything to stay open in the creative process.
RMH:
Okay, let’s talk about your new release on HEKATE! ‘Hard Disco’ has this dark, atmospheric vibe with that android-like vocal sample. What inspired the sound of this track, and how did working with PRYDIE influence the production?
Aida Arko:
‘Hard Disco’ is a high-energy EP made for the dance floor. The android vocal adds a futuristic touch, while ‘Knock Out’ is a hybrid acid track with a dramatic breakdown. Working with PRYDIE on ‘Hard Disco’ pushed the track’s boundaries, keeping it bold and personal. This EP hits the point every time I play it for the crowd and im am extremely satisfied with the outcome on Hekate records.
RMH:
And then there’s the b-side, ‘Knock Out,’ where you tackle the impactful topic of domestic abuse. What drove you to address this issue in your music, and what do you hope listeners take from it?
Aida Arko:
I wanted to shed light on the silenced topic of domestic abuse. ‘Knock Out’ is about resilience and sparking conversations. I hope it inspires strength and awareness.
RMH:
Are there any genres or sounds you haven’t explored yet that you’re interested in experimenting with in the future?
Aida Arko:
I’d love to dive into ambient and cinematic sounds, and I’m also keen to involve more live instruments and create a more experimental sound.
RMH:
What’s the weirdest talent or party trick you have that not many people know about?
Aida Arko:
I can still eat fire! I can also write in calligraphy—it’s always fun to surprise people.
RMH:
What can we expect next from you? Are there any other causes or themes you’re passionate about bringing to your music?
Aida Arko:
More collaborations and fresh music. My sound is constantly evolving and at the moment my focus is to create epic moments for big stages. I’m working on re-edits of some legendary tracks and collaborations with super talented singers and other artists while having some solo and personal projects in the pipeline. The future looks very promising. I can’t wait to share more with you soon.
